Transnet has reported a profit for the first time in four years, according to Moneyweb. The South African state-owned rail and port operator posted a R4.6 billion profit, SABC News reported, a turnaround from its previous losses.
The company's leadership struck an optimistic tone. EWN reported that Transnet said it had "really turned the corner." The result comes amid structural reforms at the organisation, according to SABC News.
The picture is not straightforward, however. News24 reported that a once-off sale affected the figures, complicating the reading of the result. Moneyweb also noted that while Transnet's rail and port operations are stabilising, debt has emerged as the next major problem facing the company.
